Man in the sea up to his chest in water
The hovercraft was launched after a request from the Police and Coastguard to assist in the recovery of a man who had waded into the tide.
Crews sped to the scene at 11.55 am on Wednesday, November 26, to rescue the local man, believed to be in ‘despondent mood’, who had waded out into the tide approximately 200 yards off the Morecambe Hotel in Morecambe.

Hide AdThe volunteer hovercraft crew quickly located the man, who was up to his chest in water, manoeuvred him into the hovercraft,where they covered him with a blanket and transported him to the nearby hovercraft station; where he was transferred to an a waiting ambulance crew.
Morecambe RNLI Deputy Launching Authority and Press Officer, Colin Midwinter, said “He was extremely cold and it was imperative that we were able to quickly and successfully transfer him ashore before his condition deteriorated further.”
